Open since 1970, Dazies has the expected Queens Italian-American accoutrements of valet parking, brass sconces, tuxedoded waiters, Bill Murray–style pianist and acres of tiramisu. But its clientele reflects the evolving neighborhood—groups of guys and older couples are now joined by art folk from nearb MoMA QNS, the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum and other cultural enclaves.
Old-timers and newcomers are drawn by well-above-average, generously apportioned food (herb-flecked gnocchi, peppery seafood-ladden zuppa di pesce, tender veal cutlets) and a remarkably inexpensive wine list. Can't decide? The combinazione alla Mario offers veal, chicken and steak in a wine-enriched gravy. Traditional desserts—a not-too-sweet ricotta cheesecake and tiramisu—are the way to go. And we dare you to request a Billy Joel tune.
